8 million Nigerian children subjected to human trafficking

NIGERIA has been identified as a major routeand conveyor belt for child trafficking which entails the illegal movement of human beings for illicit business activities.

According to the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) fact sheet on global statistics eight million children had been driven in and out of the country for different types of exploitative labour, with the average age of the children put at 15 years.

UNICEF said between 60 per cent and 80 per cent Nigerian girls were involved in sex trade in Europe, over 200 in Italy while Belgium and Holland were experiencing an upsurge in the number of the girls.
