The scheme brought women in their early 20s from Thailand, Malaysia
and Vietnam, where they were already involved in the sex trade.
Hoping to find a better life in Canada, they eventually found
themselves enslaved to those who helped them get here.
"Agents" in their home country charged thousands of dollars to set
them up with forged identification and travel documents. "Escorts"
brought the women to Canada where they met with "flesh brokers" who
would buy out their contracts, which were often worth tens of
thousands of dollars, such as the one Calgary police officers were
offered.
