The area of accuracy and reliability of statistics has been a forefront issue in the Mekong Region of S.E. Asia where I am based. Leading work is being done by UNESCO at the efforts of Dr. David Feingold, Coordinator of Trafficking-HIV/AIDS Programmes, Culture Unit, UNESCO Bangkok.
You should reference the UNESCO Trafficking Project at website http://www.unescobkk.org/culture/trafficking/ev.asp?ev=83&id=83 where “The UNESCO Trafficking Statistics Project has developed a database attempting to trace the source of statistics on human trafficking and related issues and ascertain the methodology by which these numbers were calculated.”
A wealth of useful information and links to trafficking research and data can be found at www.no-trafficking.org which is the website of the UN Inter-Agency Project to Combat Human Trafficking in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, an indispensable resource. The Trafficking Statistics Project can also be accessed from their website.
