Dear Mr. Gellerman,
My name is Andrea Powell, and I am co-Director of a Boston-based
organization, FAIR Fund. We work in the area of women's rights and
civil society development. As far as I know, the US State Department
gives the figure 900,000 each year worldwide. Of that, they estimate
that about 100,000 might be trafficked into the United States. I think
it is terribly difficult to verify the statistics considering victims
are generally not willing or able to come forward with information. I
know that the International Organization for Migration did a survey in
Armenia in 2001 that had close to 1,000 women and girls being
trafficked every year from Armenia. They based that on a survey of
about 40 women. I hope that will help you in your search for more
trafficking information.
Best regards,
Andrea Powell
