We are pleased to inform you that UNICRI is on the point of starting a
training project for pecekeepers on this issue.

The following is the summary of the project:

The project aims at countering organised crime and criminal networks
involved in trafficking in persons (TIP) in peacekeeping mission areas
by improving information and awareness of the problem, through the
identification and test of a proper training module for members of
peacekeeping operations (PKOs).
The South-East European region (SEE) was selected for its fundamental
interest for the EU countries both for their involvement in the two
current peacekeeping operations and the relevance events in the SEE have

for Western and Northern Europe.
The proposal foresees the identification by international experts of
proper training regimens and curricula that will be tested in a seminar
for training-of-trainers chosen from police and justice administration
officials participating in PKOs in the region.
Outcomes will include: enhancing awareness/information on the issue
within PKOs and creating or bolstering anti-trafficking capacities,
through proper pre-deployment and/or in-service training.
Eventually, additional funding will be sought for a twofold follow-up
project. On the one hand, the project envisages the creation of a
repository and the establishment of an experts’ network/roster, where
information and data on trafficking in persons and PKOs will be stored
and analysed in order to identify best practices and gaps in legislation

and policies. Information will be made accessible through the Internet
to the widest possible audience. On the other hand, the tested and
finalised training module will be replicated as pre-deployment training
in the national contexts and in-service training for personnel serving
in PKO areas.

Yours sincerely,

Stefania Ducci
